NHL Winter Classic Preview: The Blackhawks are a good team in the first half, but they have to beat the Rangers to win the game

It’s been a rough few weeks for the Chicago Blackhawks.
The team lost to the Boston Bruins in the Western Conference Quarterfinals and to the Edmonton Oilers in the Conference Finals.
After the losses, general manager Stan Bowman said that the team was trying to put things in perspective.
“It was a tough first half,” Bowman said.
“We started off strong and had a couple of great games.
But it was a little bit of a slump, a little too slow, a lot of mental mistakes.”
So why is the Blackhawks starting the season in a good place?
First, Bowman said the Blackhawks were trying to find ways to win games.
“The key thing for us, as we started the season, was to find a way to win every game,” Bowman explained.
“There was a lot to like about this team.
We were up against the top teams in the league.
We had some tough games but we were able to overcome it and play good hockey.”
The Blackhawks went 0-5-0 in their first 10 games.
The first half saw the team score just 17 goals, which was the worst in the NHL.
Bowman said he wanted to start the season off with a bang.
“I didn’t want to get caught up in the early losses and not really give ourselves the chance to win,” Bowman admitted.
“That was really the first thing I tried to do.
I didn’t care if we were up by one goal or down by one.
I was trying not to get distracted by those things.”
So how did the Blackhawks end up winning the first five games?
“It’s a combination of a lot different things,” Bowman noted.
“Some of it was our goaltending.
They were very good at stopping the puck, especially in their games.
They kept the pressure on and kept us on our heels.
The third-period goal in Game 6 of the Western Semi-Finals was the icing on the cake. “
You’ve got to take away a lot from the other teams and that was our downfall.”

“Our goalie got a couple big saves,” Bowman pointed out.
“He’s done a great job this year.
I’m proud of him.
Our power play wasn’t really strong. “
In Game 6, our guys were aggressive.
Our power play wasn’t really strong.
They made a couple great plays.
We did a great team job on the penalty kill.”
The Hawks had the best power play in the entire NHL at 50.5 percent.
It helped them win Game 6 and keep the Blackhawks in the race for the Stanley Cup.
“They have a lot in common with us,” Bowman concluded.
“Their system is a little different.
We don’t have as many turnovers, but we have a better puck possession system.
Blackhawks fans have been waiting for the team to win their first Stanley Cup since 1993, and they’ll get their first opportunity to see that team play this season when the team hosts the Minnesota Wild in Game 7 of the Conference Semifinals on Friday. “
This year is going to be the first time we’ve had a Stanley Cup championship in five years, so I think it’s going to show.”

The Blackhawks can win the first round against the Wild if they can beat the Minnesota team in their next two games.
